Caritas gives humanitarian aid to 7,000 IDPs in Abyei

Caritas Relief Coordinator in Abyei said they distributed over the weekend food and non food items to seven thousand Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs after suffering hunger for four months.
 
Fr Biong Kuol Deng told Voice of Hope in a telephone interview that Caritas first distributed non food items including plastic sheets, mosquito nets and cooking utensils followed by food items: sorghum, beans and sugar.
 
The Coordinator said the second IDPs arrivals’ are in worst conditions under trees surviving on wild fruits and leaves of trees and rain always beats them in the open with women and children majority.
 
Fr Kuol called on other humanitarian organizations to quickly intervene especially in the areas of health, shelter and food because the relief they delivered will not sustain the IDPs.
 
The Coordinator said the IDPs in Abyei are still facing threats from militias and opposition forces around the area.
