Save the Children warned that cholera is likely to put thousands of people at risk as South Sudan is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises.

Save the Children’s Country Director Peter Walsh in a statement on Friday said their teams on the ground were reporting new cases of cholera every day as desperate parents were coming to clinics with already weak children.

He lamented that they were facing shortages of supplies as roads are turning to mud, hindering efforts to get support and drugs to those in need.

Mr Walsh warned that the situation would worsen with heavy rains and stagnant floodwater which would speed up rapid spread of cholera.

The Country Director cautioned that without concerted action and greater supplies of medicines, it is inevitable that more children would die from cholera.
