Independence twelve and six kilometres marathon is expected to kick off on Saturday in Juba under the theme: ‘Run for peace’.
South Sudan Athletic Federation Secretary-General Kamal John told Bakhita Radio that the race is for both men and women and that 12 kilometre running will start at Dr John Garang Mausoleum through Jebel market going through Lou Hospital at Gudele 1 and back to the Mausoleum.
He added that the six-kilometre race will also start at the Mausoleum going through University of Juba through Malakia, Mobil, Muduria and the ministries road to and back to the Mausoleum.
The Secretary-General said one-kilometre race would also be organized for pupils at their different schools.
Mr John said the first ten winners of both races would be given a cash award.
He said they invited foreign communities in South Sudan in addition to Kenyan, Ugandan and Ethiopian athletes to participate in the event.
Mr John said even if foreigners won the first positions, South Sudanese would still be given awards.
The Secretary-General said registration is ongoing at Gemtel head office, Malakia, Lou Hospital and Nimira Talata in Juba.
He said more than seven thousand females registered for the marathon, urging many ladies to participate in the race.
