More than one hundred downsized employees in Western Bahr El Ghazal on Monday at the State Public Service Ministry went rioting over unpaid gratuity.
Public Service Minister Monica Sabino Madut said the protesters included the 350 downsized employees laid off in 2008 without national Finance Ministry paying their benefits through the state, Voice of Hope reported.
She said the demonstrators were misinformed on the payment schedule considering due to limited funds transfer from the National Ministry of Finance.
Ms Sabino explained that benefit committee wanted to pay only 15 people out of 350 downsized personnel every month of June while the rest wait.
The Minister said they are not responsible for pension payment and that pensioners should follow up with the national Ministry of Labour and Public Service in Juba to claim their benefits.
The riot came a week after the ministry cleared nearly 163 ghost names and 145 other to pension list.
