United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS head on Tuesday inaugurated a new protection site adjacent to the Mission’s base in Malakal, Upper Nile State.
Hilde F. Johnson reiterated the Mission’s commitment and new mandate from UN Security Council to protect civilians as a top priority.

She hopes President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar’s meeting in Addis Ababa would make a progress to usher peace and stability for safe return of civilians.

Ms Johnson added that opening new IDPs’ site would relieve congestion inside UNMISS compound.

The new facility has an area of 100 thousand square metres for accommodating between eight and nine thousand IDPs.
