Lakes Local Government Minister praised United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS forces operating in the state since 2005.

Jok Ayom Ayom assured the Mission of government’s cooperation in service and civilians’ protection, Good News Radio reported.

Lakes State became the centre of attention earlier in 2014 when security organs intercepted trucks loaded with weapons, casting suspicion that they were destined for opposition forces.

The suspicion was later on cleared by special joint UN and government investigation team, reporting that the weapons belong to UNMISS Ghanaian Battalion force in Bentiu of Unity State.

The minister made the statement during the commemoration of International Peacekeepers Day of the Nepalese contingent in Rumbek.

UNMISS State Coordinator Kwame Aboabyea said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon remembers all peacekeepers who died in service all over the world including South Sudan.
