United Nations children agency or UNICEF Education Specialist on Monday urged leaders to clear schools occupied by armed forces and Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs to give room for children to learn.
Thelma K. Majela said children should not be exposed to violence because it affects their development, saying children’s protection was a collective responsibility.
She said exposure of children into violence promotes internalized trauma in them.
Dr Majela urged national and state Education ministers to advocate for peace and protection of children’s conducive learning environment.
She called for removal of inequality in education including violence and hate speech.
Global Partnership for Education Manager Tizie Maphalala revealed a plan to guide construction of schools.
The officials made the statements during a two-day Education ministers’ consultative meeting.
