United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS head said the Security Council mandated additional forces to sufficiently protect civilians.

Hilde Johnson said the forces would enable the Mission to protect most vulnerable civilians far from their bases.

She disclosed that justice, true healing and reconciliation could occur only with genuine accountability to perpetrators of atrocities.

Ms Johnson expressed the Mission’s commitment to help the resilient people of the young nation out of the current crisis by restoring the spirit of hope and promises of South Sudanese.

Cabinet Minister Martin Elia Lomurö believed that the country would be in peace only if IGAD ensures that no other countries in the region supply guns to individuals.

He expressed government’s determination to use mid December crisis to reorganize the country and create a peaceful environment for people to live in dignity.

The officials made the statement on Thursday at UNMISS compound during the commemoration of the role of peace keepers.
