Western Bahr El Ghazal Agriculture seminar on Monday discussed issues facing small-Scale farmers to realize sustainable food productivity at the Catholic University of South Sudan, Wau Campus.
State Agriculture Minister Adil Athanasius Surur said as long as farmers practice traditional method, food security would remain a challenge, Voice of Hope reported.
He called on Bahr El Ghazal and Catholic Universities to put programs for researchers to help educate farmers on modern agricultural methods.
Mani Tese Project Coordinator Daniela Biocca said farmers need capacity building on crops production and processing.
The participants recommended that agriculture partners should not only assist farmers with seeds but also to train them on how to conserve and preserve seeds to minimize importation and reliance on high breeds.
The seminar drew together many participants including lecturers, national and international organizations, government agriculture experts and researchers.
