Lainya County Assistant Agriculture Commissioner in Central Equatoria State said the county has been hit by a pest disease locally known as ‘waya waya’, hindering the struggle to achieve food security.
Paul Longole told Easter Radio in a telephone interview on Wednesday that local farmers lack enough seeds for reasonable planting in the area.
He added that requests made to organisations including ZOA and UMCOR to provide seeds and tools had not yet materialized.
Mr Longole said the waya waya disease started a week ago, spreading so quickly to other parts of the county.
The Assistant Agriculture Commissioner said calls for the state ministry to intervene in spreading crop disease have not yielded any result.
