Government Spokesperson said Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs celebrating successful operations of SPLM/A in opposition against the government are ‘rebels’.
Michael Makuei Lueth advised United Nations Mission in South Sudan; UNMISS not to shelter armed IDPs in its camps.
He warned that accommodating armed IDPs linked to the opposition forces in UNMISS compound was unacceptable and intolerable.
Mr Makuei added that the recent fall of Bentiu City of Unity State to opposition forces was connected to IDPs.
The spokesperson labeled Bor youth UNMISS compound attackers as ‘government supporters’, not rebels, arguing that if they were members of the armed opposition, they would have been sheltering in UNMISS or staying in opposition held areas.
Mr Makuei said the armed youths belong to the civil population in Bor.
He declined to tell who armed the youths in the area and why they are not disarmed like Juba residents.
The official attributed Bor incident to a mistake of UN peace keepers firing into the air to scare off what he termed peaceful protesters.
Mr Makuei said government and UNMISS would investigate what he called provoked incident.
