The army Elephant Division Five in Western Bahr El Ghazal on Thursday staged a sport peaceful demonstration as a powerful tool to instil peace in minds of soldiers.
Hundreds of Division Five soldiers marched from Girinti Military Barack in Wau to the State Secretariat carrying football cup, Voice of Hope reported.
The Division Commander Major General David Barak said the army wanted to show the importance of sport in promoting a culture of peace and stability among soldiers.
He said the army does not only hold a gun but also can use sport as a tool to fight violence in the country.
State Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan appreciated the change created in the army through sports activities Division Five commanders initiated.
He said looting in the market and other criminal acts committed by the army which were common before 2012 were minimized.
The Governor encouraged all organized forces to form football clubs as demonstrated by the army.
The peaceful demonstration scared many citizens who misunderstood the purpose questioning why the army marched in such a big number.
