Tonj South County in Warrap State Education Director said most villages’ pupils delay because they still follow Sudan’s calendar where schools open in May.
Mayom Lual Bak said pupils were still engaged in fishing and cattle keeping along the river bank, Don Bosco Radio reported.
Mr Bak urged parents and guardians to send their children to school because education is a joint responsibility of communities and teachers.
He quoted that the national Transitional Constitution that public servants including teachers work 21days in a month.
Mr Bakadded education is free for pupils of primary one to eight and that teachers and materials were available.
The Director urged head teachers to enlighten parents, guardians and chiefs to send their children to school.
