Eastern Equatoria Legislative Assembly on Monday passed 2013/2014 budget with amendments in its third reading to the tune of 200 million South Sudanese Pounds.

The budget was presented to the assembly by the State Finance Minister Felix Makuja, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Before passing the budget on Monday, MPs deliberated on recommendations and amendments on the expenditure report of Economic Development, Finance and Public Account Specialized Committee.

The legislators later passed the budget after MP Anjela Ajana Pio seconded a motion raised by her colleague Aventore Kenyi Bilal to pass the budget.

Acting Speaker Severino Maira Jenus who chaired the sitting commended the legislators for their effort and contributions for passing the state budget.

He admitted the delay in the passing of the budget, saying that it was not intentional but due to political crisis that paralyzed several activities in the country.

The deaths of two state MPs within a period of two weeks ago also contributed in the delay of passing Eastern Equatoria budget.

It is worth mentioning that 51 percent of the 200 million South Sudanese Pounds was spent in the mid 2013/2014 fiscal year.
