The African Union or AU Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan in its second meeting on Wednesday resolved its first visit to country before the end of April 2014.
The Commission chaired by the former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo planned to meet President Salva Kiir and engage with other actors including SPLM/A in opposition leader Riek Machar.
It also planned to meet key leaders in the region including Ethiopia Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya.
The Commission started gathering information from stakeholders and several experts on governance, institutional reforms and strengthening, one of the focal areas of its mandate.
The Commission heard the former UN Mission in Sudan Political Affairs Director in Juba, former Ethiopian Defence Forces Chief of Staff; AU High Implementation Panel on Sudan and South Sudan Chief of Staff; civil society expert working in South Sudan and former UN Force Commander in Abyei.
It continues to receive information from the public in and out of South Sudan by way of memoranda on various aspects as it prepares for more meetings and field missions.
