Four students were reportedly injured in the University of Bahr El Ghazal’s strike over shortage of water and electricity.
Wau Mayor Arkangelo Anyar Anyar said four students and two police sustained minor injuries, Voice of Hope reported.
Boarding students on Saturday morning protested by blocking main roads to the University and chanting slogans: ‘We need water and electricity; we want Dean of Student affairs Stephen Gum removed’.
The peaceful demonstration became tense with police firing bullets in an attempt to contain the situation.
Anonymous sources at the University revealed that most water tanks in two hostels remained dry for a week prompting students to demonstrate.
The protest came one week after the start of the second semester.
The University administration could not be reached for comments.
