Medair is implementing World Health Organization or WHO program by vaccinating 25 thousand Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs against oral cholera at UN camp at Juba Na Bari.
Medair Health Emergency Response Team Manager Wani Louis Michael told CRN on Friday that they vaccinated four thousand IDPs ranging from one to 100 years old with the first dose of the vaccine on Thursday.
He added that seven thousand were vaccinated on Friday.
Mr Wani said they will continue vaccinating the IDPs until they reach the targeted number.
The Manager said pregnant women and children below one year would not be vaccinated against cholera.
Mr Wani said research showed that pregnant women and babies under one year were not vulnerable to cholera infection.
An IDP Peter Khor Gai told CRN that they were still afraid of targeted killings, tortures and rapes by some extremists outside the camp.
He said there were problems outside the UNMISS compound and that some criminals still terrorize citizens making them fear and remain in the camp.
WHO on Thursday said IDPs camps in Juba, Bor, Bentiu and Malakal were at higher risks due to poor sanitation, congestion and nutrition.
