African Union or AU Commission Chairperson on Saturday launched a Foundation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In a statement Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma said there was need to have alternative sources of finances from within Africa so that Africans could claim ownership of the Foundation.
‘We should begin to fund our development ourselves’ she added.
The statement says the Union accepts funding from overseas’ donors.
Dr Zuma said domestic and alternative sources of funding was an intrinsic element of the continent’s commitments of the Pan African values of self-determination, solidarity and self-reliance.
The Chairperson urged participants to act as goodwill ambassadors to the foundation.
