South Sudan Civil Society Alliance called on the government and SPLM/A in opposition to account on human rights violations they committed during the conflict.

Alliance Chairperson Deng Athuai Mawiir Rehan on Tuesday told journalists that ‘the general elections must take place as scheduled in 2015’, Bakhita Radio reported.

He called for the separation of the army from politics.

Mr Mawiir said the Alliance welcomed Cessation of Hostilities signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia between the government and SPLM/A in opposition.

The Chairperson said the Alliance would form an independent committee to verify how many people were affected in the crisis.

Mr Mawiir called on IDPs to return to their homes before the start of the rain season, appealing to the government to provide security.
