‘The Catholic Church in South Sudan and Sudan lost their only elderly priest who died in Yei on Wednesday after serving for 58 years as a priest’.
These are the words of Yei Catholic Bishop Erkulano Lodu Tombe to Christians during a short prayer on Wednesday evening at Christ the King Cathedral, after Monsignor Jocondo Anyugo passed away, Easter Radio reported.
He said the late Monsignor left the two countries without a grandfather.
Bishop Lodu described the late Monsignor Anyugo as a father to him and a grandfather to some young priests and Christians.
Yei Catholic Diocesan Secretary General Fr Emmanuel Sebit Lodu said the health of the late Monsignor Anyogu started worsening since August 2008 when his heart was found not functioning properly and was recommended for surgery.
He explained that when the operation was almost taking place Monsignor Anyugo was not psychologically ready.
Fr Sebit explained that doctors planted a pace maker to support the normal heart beat of the late Monsignor.
He added that Monsignor Anyugo developed heart infection hyposthenia and chest infection until he took his last breath.
The late Monsignor Jocondo Anyugo suffered long sickness which weakened his health until the age of 90.
