Hundreds of people comprising citizens, pupils, organized forces, UN agencies and state authorities on Tuesday gathered in Yambio, Western Equatoria to celebrate International Human Rights Day.
The celebration organized by United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS under the theme: ’20 years of fighting for rights’ started with a procession and ended with dances at Yambio Freedom Square, Anisa Radio reported.
UNMISS State Coordinator Atakhi Hailu said the issue of human right was the concern of every human kind in the world.
He lamented that many people misinterpret its concept and that there was need for public awareness on human rights.
Mr Hailu said UN was standing firm to uphold adherence to human rights and it shall not excuse any violator of international human rights articles.
Western Equatoria Deputy Governor Sapana Abui said it was a constitutional mandate for the government to protect every right of a citizen of South Sudan.
