The Episcopal Church of Sudan or ECS changed its name to the Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan or ECSSS.

A press statement issued on Sunday revealed that 35 bishops, 38 pastors and 35 laity from 31 ECS dioceses in South Sudan and Sudan met in Bor and resolved to change the name.

The statement expressed concerns on the suffering of people due to floods, violence and insecurity in Jonglei State and other parts of the country.

It pointed out ECSSS’ firm commitment to support government to realize peace and stability in South Sudan.

ECSSS commended President Salva Kiir Mayardit for granting amnesty to rebel groups in the country.

The statement said the church remains concern to Abyei issue and the suffering of God’s people there.

It called on the governments of South Sudan and Sudan, AU and UN to accept the results of the community driven referendum held in October.

The statement said they continue to pray for lasting peace in Nuba Mountains, the Blue Nile and Darfur.
