Japan Embassy in Juba through Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA on Friday donated emergency relief items worth 180 thousand US Dollars for helping flood affected people in the country.
The items were channelled through the UN International Organization for Migration or IOM, Bakhita Radio reported.
JICA representative in South Sudan Atsushi Hanatani said the heavy rainfall that affected nearly 300 thousand people in the country prompted the Agency to donate the items to meet the needs of the victims.
Japan Ambassador to South Sudan Takeshi Akamatsu said their government responded after the South Sudan government appealed for assistance.
He explained that the items included 1,600 blankets, 1,600 jarricans, 200 tents, 200 mosquito nets and 96 thousand aqua tabs.
Ambassador Akamatsu urged the government of South Sudan to properly distribute the item to the rightful victioms.
Gender Child and Disaster Management Undersecretary Clement Taban Dominic said out of 345 thousand people affected by the flood, 227 thousand people were assisted while 118 thousand people still need assistance.
He said Japan government donation would help more than 400 households severely affected in Gogrial East.
Mr Taban said IOM would transport the relief items from Juba to Wau by road and UN Humanitarian Air Service would transport to Gogrial East.
