Western Bahr El Ghazal authorities on Monday reported a reduction of HIV Aids infections during the World Aids Day celebration.
State Health Minister Adil Athanasius Surur said the current prevalence stands at 1.4 percent in 2011 survey compared to 2.6 in 2005, Voice of Hope reported.
He announced that 48 children in the state this year were born free of HIV Aids from infected mothers.
The minister attributed the drop in the new infections to increased number of voluntary testing and cancelling and mother to child prevention centers in the state.
Mr Athanasius pointed out that limited partners support and insufficient fund as main challenges that hinder the state in the fight against HIV Aids.
State Aids Commission Director Peter Nazanga reminded participants that the day aimed at campaigning against discrimination and awareness on behaviour change.
The Western Bahr El Ghazal HIV Aids took place at Isaac Stadium in Wau.
