The Government of South Sudan on Monday announced that it will increase the fight against HIV Aids.

National Health Minister Riek Gai Kok, who represented President Salva Kiir at Aids World Day in Juba, said the country gained independence at a challenging time when the pandemic became a severe threat to public health.

He added that they were upgrading the fight against HIV by placing it the first priority to reflect the vision of late Dr John Garang who alluded that the disease was going to make peace meaningless if not fought jointly.

Dr Riek said government would show commitment to zero new infection in the country.

The Heath Minister added that there would be an increased political will to the fight.

Dr Riek reiterated massive mobilization and sensitization on HIV Aids would be staged in all ten states of the country.
