The Abyei referendum exercise conducted last month met international standards and there is no reason for rejecting it.
Abyei Area Referendum Commission chairperson Muonyluak Alor Kuol said through the recommendation of the international and national observers results were bound to be accepted, Voice of Hope reported.
He added that the referendum results reflected Abyei people’s decision in a democratic process.
Mr Alor said he believed Juba and the international community will make a logical scrutiny on the fairness of the Abyei referendum process and give positive support.
The official mentioned that the AU delegation carried out their mission successfully in the area despite some protests over the Union’s stand on the referendum.
The head of the Abyei Referendum Commission made these remarks on Monday during their two-day visit to Western Bahr El Ghazal to thank the state government for its support.
