The Chinese Red Cross donated 50 thousand US dollars to flood victims in response to an international appeal by the government of South Sudan.

Government spokesperson Michael Makuei Lueth told reporters on Friday after the cabinet meeting that the Chinese government would follow suit.

He added that South Sudan was expecting more support from other friendly countries.

Mr Makuei apologized on behalf of the government for the harassment and torture of diplomats in Juba by security organs.

He pointed out that such occurrences would be corrected immediately.

Mr Makuei observed that it was the government’s responsibility to protect diplomats in the country.

The Government spokesperson said the cabinet directed institutions to respect diplomats.

The apology came after a report over the week that some security organs knocked a diplomats’ vehicle and harassed the officials in Juba.
