South Sudan Law Society on Wednesday welcomed the Republican order pardoning political detainees in the country.

The Advocacy Officer Priscilla Nyagoah Tut said they welcomed the pardon of Peter Abdelrahman Sule, Lam Akol Ajawin and others.

She criticised the act done without justice, arguing that a competent court should try them to prove their innocence or guilt.

Ms Tut explained that court justice was necessary to clean up their names to fit in the society.

The Advocacy Officer said detention without military tribunal or court trial was in itself injustice against the pardoned leaders.

The statement was a response to Republican order granting pardon to Dr Lam Akol Ajawin of SPLM DC, Peter Sule of UDF and three Major-Generals who allegedly took arms against the government.
