Actors urge media to fight HIV AIDS

HIV AIDS Actors in the country urged media houses to take bold steps in raising public awareness on dangers of the killer diseases to realize  the vision of ”zero new infection, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related deaths” by 2017.
 
UNAIDS Country Coordinator Medhin Tsehaiu revealed a plan to train journalists to disseminate information on HIV AIDS to the entire population in the country, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
She said though HIV prevalence in the country stands at 2.6, massive awareness is still needed.
 
Ms Tsehaiu appealed to all media houses in the country to come out and take the lead in the fight against the disease.
 
She added that her team will partner with media houses to raise HIV awareness in South Sudan.
 
South Sudan AIDS Program Coordinator Habib Dafalla said the Commission cannot achieve its vision of zero new infection, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related deaths without media participation.
 
He strongly encouraged the media to participate in the awareness campaign.
 
South Sudan AIDS Commission on Thursday launched World AIDS DAY campaign aimed at reaching all citizens in the ten states before December 1.
