The Upper Nile State civic education team leader in the Constitution Review Commission on Friday said citizens demanded the name of Sudan People’s Liberation Army or SPLA to be changed to National Army of South Sudan or NASS.

Helen Oller told the press that a cross section of people including organized forces suggested that South Sudan army should no longer bear the name SPLA because the liberation was over.

Ms Oller explained that Upper Nile citizens observed that the SPLM party should have different flag from the national one.

She added that since parliament approved the party flag for the nation, the party should adopt a different one.

Western Equatoria team leader Clement Janda said citizens demanded transformation of the SPLA from party army into national army.

He said many citizens raised many concerns for the need of army transformation.

National constitutional Review commission civic education team leaders made the statements during a press briefing in Juba on Friday.
