Official denies cholera outbreak in Wau

An official at Wau Teaching Hospital refuted claims of suspected cholera outbreak in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal State.
 
Citizens in Wau raised complains over increased cases of diarrhea suspecting it to be cholera epidemic, Voice of Hope reported.
 
Nelson Gandido Ali, Out-patient Director at Wau Teaching Hospital denied any cholera outbreak in the town.
 
He admitted that the hospital registered high number of acute diarrhea cases in August caused by bacteria and that the hospital treated the cases.
 
Dr Gandido attributed acute diarrhea cases to changes in seasons saying acute diarrhea does not mean cholera.
 
The doctor disclosed that 38 cases of acute watery diarrhea were diagnosed.
 
He said watery diarrhea cases increased last month compared to previous months.
 
Dr Gandido advised citizens to wash their hands with soap as precautionary measures against acute diarrhea.
 
He emphasized that food items sold at roads are at risk of bacteria infection especially during the rain season.
 
Dr Gandido cautioned citizens to be careful before consuming any food item.
