Lakes State Director-General in the ministry of Public Service denied reports that the State Government suspended only salaries of students on leave.

Abraham Makur Mangok told the media on Friday that the government suspended salaries of 474 public servants who are not at work places, Good News Radio reported.

He explained that they suspended salaries of four categories of employees: those who deserted work long ago, people given permission and never returned to work and public servants who took annual leaves and did not report to their officesb but have their names in state payrolls.

Makur also clarified that students who were released for studies in 2005, 2008 and 2009 and did not report to work were another category of public servants suspended.

The Director-General said the state Government’s move was not politically motivated but an administrative measure.

Mr Makur said the committee will look over the suspended employees’ salaries before taking to council of ministers for scrutiny.

The Director-General said the move will help in reducing the Government and the number of human resource.

He said the order for suspending absentees’ salaries was effective from August 26.
