The national army or SPLA accused Sudan Armed Forces or SAF of reoccupying the buffer zone agreed on during the cooperation agreements’ security arrangements.

SPLA spokesperson colonel Philip Aguer told CRN on Monday that SAF returned to the demilitarized area in violation of the agreement.

He said SPLA was maintaining its position ten kilometres away from the demilitarized area.

The spokesperson said the situation at the border remains calm and stable despite the violation of the buffer zone agreement.

Colonel Aguer revealed that South Sudan authorities reported the violation to the African Union Border Verification and Monitoring team.

Sudan Armed Forces could not be reached for comment.
