Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan called on aid workers and the government to work in the spirit of ‘solidarity’.

Toby Lanzer in statement marking World Humanitarian Day on Monday committed to continue working together with people of South Sudan.

He said ‘our goal is to reach three million people in need with lifesaving assistance in South Sudan by the end of the year’.

Mr Lanzer explained that South Sudanese make up the vast majority of people working in challenging conditions and at times risk their lives to deliver assistance in the most remote corners of the country.

‘As Humanitarian Coordinator the spirit and courage of the aid workers in the deep field is an inspiration to me’, he said.

Mr Lanzer added that ‘World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all to re-commit to the values that underpin humanitarianism’.

He paid tribute to colleagues who lost their lives while relieving the suffering of others.
