Two Canadian nationals plan to bring to South Sudan their invention: a bicycle-powered grain mill that can produce a kilo of dura flour in five minutes.
The Flour Peddler Mill, created by Chris Hergesheimer, is a relatively simple machine: it connects a small mill with a normal bicycle frame minus the wheels.Chris and his brother Josh plan to come to South Sudan to introduce the new technology that could revolutionize flour production in remote areas without electricity or fuel motors to power mills.
They want to assemble the pedal-powered mills with the local people, using parts and materials on sale in the local markets.
Chris said local co-ops could install a number of pedal-powered mills to produce flour for sale or develop the assembly process and sell mills to new clients.
He added that his invention could represent a business opportunity to the local communities in South Sudan.
The Hergesheimer brothers are raising 6,500 Canadian dollars to visit South Sudan and introduce the new pedal-powered mills.
