SOUTH SUDAN INTENSIFIES CAMPAIGN TO ERADICATE GUINEA WORM

National Health ministry in collaboration with World Health Organization and other partners increased guinea worm eradication campaign in the Country.

Eastern Equatoria Health minister Margaret Itto told Radio Emmanuel that South Sudan set two years ultimatum to eliminate the disease.

Dr Itto said the national government intensified community awareness, construction of boreholes and protection of drinking water sources in Guinea Worm endemic areas.

She added that health workers were deployed in the prevalent areas to manage, conduct surveillance and report to higher authorities.

Dr. Itto explained that Guinea worm infected persons were not allowed to go to drinking water sources and water management centres to avoid further spread.

She said Kapoeta East County recorded 43 cases of guinea worm infections up the beginning of June.

Eastern Equatoria State registered the highest number of guinea worm infection cases putting South Sudan to top the World records.
