Over 16 thousand people are estimated to be newly infected by HIV AIDS every year in South Sudan.
Central Equatorial AIDS Commission Director Youngson David Sadrack said there more than 15 thousand people living with HIV AIDS, Radio Easter reported..Yei River County AIDS coordinator Chris Issa Gordon said the rate of HIV prevalence was on increase in the county by 2.6 percent.
He said the evidence was that 2,500 people are already receiving treatment in the County.
Yei River County Commissioner Juma David Augustine called on the national government to support courses aimed at raising communities’ awareness on HIV AIDS in the Country.
The speakers were talking during a one-day HIV AIDS awareness workshop organised by South Sudan Health Association in Yei.
The workshop brought together more than 30 people from the six counties of Central Equatorial State.
