Students of Rumbek University agreed to cater for themselves if the university was ready to reopen after more than a year holiday.
John Jurkuc, a student representative said after meeting the University Vice Chancellor on Tuesday that students resolved to take care of their own accommodation, feeding, tuition and transport.Students on Monday held peaceful demonstration and threatened to burn Rumbek University to ashes if it did not reopen.
Vice Chancellor Matthew Atem admitted that the students were right to demonstrate except that it was a misplaced protest.
He blamed Higher Education ministry in Juba for delaying university operation budget.
Higher Education Deputy Minister Kuch Abyei in a phone conversation from Juba denied the allegations.
Mr Abyei said the University administration was aware of the financial problems facing the government and should clarify the matter to the students.
He appreciated the students for accepting to dialogue with the administration to reach a consensus.
The University Senate is expected to meet soon and discussÊ university reopeningÊ and a way forward.
