Thirty-six women were arrested in Rumbek on suspicion of selling locally brewed alcohol in Malith market breaking the dry law imposed by the state Government to strengthen security.

Most of the women are either widows and or without family that can support them.

One of the arrested women phoned Sudan Tribune from Rumbek prison.

She said police and the security agents drank the seized booze without paying.

Rumbek Central County Commissioner Abraham Mayen Kuc received an order from caretaker Governor Matur Chut Dhuol asking him to implement his alcohol ban.

Only three upmarket hotels are allowed to sell alcoholic drinks in Rumbek.
