Sudanese Revolutionary Front or SRF forces withdrew from Abu Karshola on Monday.
SRF military spokesman Abu al-Qasim Imam El Haj said the withdrawal from Abu Karshola was tactical and for humanitarian reasons. He added that “the withdrawal was not the result of any battle or confrontation with government forces”, but rather to relieve the civilian population from what he termed “a complicated humanitarian situation.”
Mr El Haj explained that the SRF withdrew from the town to remove the incentive for the government “to repeat the crimes of genocide committed by the regime in Darfur and South Kordofan.”
He reiterated that towns like Abu Karshola are not considered objectives by the rebels, but that they are √É’stepping stones’ on the road to Khartoum to overthrow Al Bashir’s regime.
Mr El Haj said government’s claims of √É’recapturing’ Abu Karshola were pure lies and propaganda.
He added that the claims were just a desperate attempt of Khartoum to raise morale in order to cover up the repeated defeats suffered by government forces.
