Priests in the Catholic Diocese of Torit have asked their faithful for prayers to guide the clerics during the transition period after the death of Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek and until the Vatican elects a successor.
Dario Hakim expressed the request for special prayers following a meeting last week of seven priests selected to lead the diocese after Bishop Akio’s death.Fr Hakim, who leads the diocesan administration team, told Radio Emmanuel that the prayer request was for the success of a general meeting the priests are holding on Tuesday.
He asked the faithful to pray also for a quick nomination of a new bishop for Torit diocese.
Fr Hakim said the Tuesday general meeting of the diocesan priests aims to make a preliminary assessment of the current situation of the diocese and its pastoral and administrative activities.
Fr Hakim disclosed that late Bishop Akio had submitted a list of names of priests to the Vatican in order to appoint an auxiliary bishop.
He said the appointment of a new bishop depends on the Vatican.
The seven priests that run the Catholic Diocese of Torit include Dario Hakim, the diocesan administrator, Kamilo Afore, Arkangelo Lokoro, Joseph Otto, John Opi, Paul Lomana and Ukelo Joseph.
