The Sudanese President has denied that he called the people of South Sudan cockroaches and that Khartoum is fuelling Yau Yau’s rebellion.

Last year, President Omar Al Bashir allegedly called the people of South Sudan cockroaches after the SPLA occupied oil rich Heglig or Panthou for a few days.

Asked whether he would apologize to the people of South Sudan for calling them cockroaches, President Al Bashir explained that he used the term to refer the SPLM because the attack on Heglig was very painful and unexpected.

President Bashir denied that he generalized the term against the people of South Sudan.

He added he was the president of the people of South Sudan for over two decades and he was proud of it.

President Bashir denied that Khartoum was supporting David Yau Yau’s rebellion in Jonglei state.

He said Sudan did not benefit from a history of rebels support in Chad, Ethiopia and Eritrea.

The Presidents of South Sudan and Sudan Friday agreed in a joint statement to normalize relations and commit to the implementation of the cooperation agreements signed in Addis Abba on 27 September 2012.
