The Catholic Diocese of Torit has opened a new secondary school to meet the growing demand for education.

Registration of students at Saints Peter and Paul Secondary School for senior one kicked off on Monday with a turn-up of over 200 candidates.

Peter Pual Amayo, the education coordinator in the Catholic Diocese of Torit, told Radio Emmanuel that the new school was an initiative of late Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek.

He said the state government granted the diocese permission to establish a secondary school at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Parish in Torit.

Fr. Amayo said the school starts with senior one class of three streams of 50 students.

He added that the target of the diocese is to establish a science school equipped with laboratories, library and other standard facilities of an educational institution.

Fr Amayo appealed to parents, civil society and the community to support the education of their children by offering the needed requirements including uniforms to better learning conditions.

The state ministry of education set the entry requirements and conducted the registration of students.

Fr Amoya said Saints Peter and Paul Secondary School starts classes at Torit Technical Institute as the diocese is lobbying for funds to build a permanent infrastructure for the institution.
