Lakes State Legislative Assembly formed a committee to oversee a bill on civilian firearms tabled this week by the state government to strengthen security.

Mading Malual, who chairs the committee, told Good News Radio on Wednesday that it was tasked with scrutinizing the bill after the first reading.

He said after the committee finishes its work, MPs will vote on it in the second reading.

Mr Malual explained that the bill targets the problem of insecurity in the state that has claimed too many lives.

He said the Firearms Bill aims to combat insecurity and promote harmony among the communities and freedom of movement in the state.

The committee formed to oversee the process of the Firearm Bills is composed of seven state MPs.
