Lakes State Caretaker Governor said his government was embarking on development programs after relative calm returned to the state.

Caretaker Governor Matur Chut Dhuol told a rally at Rumbek Freedom Square on Monday upon his return from Juba that his next step is to fight hunger, poor road network, put in place a credible judicial system and strengthening education, Radio Good News reported.

He said he has told President Salva Kiir that Lakes faces looming hunger due to poor harvests in 2012 and that the main roads connecting Rumbek to Juba need repair before rain begins.

Mr Chut revealed that the Turkish government offered to help in fixing some parts of the roads that block movement during rainy season.

The Caretaker Governor said South Sudan Chief Justice agreed to send four judges to solve a back-log of murder cases at Rumbek Prison.

Mr Matur criticized police officers and prison wardens who take bribes and come to work drunk, and warned them that they will be dismissed.
