South Sudan Human Rights Society for Advocacy launched the training of national and local civil society organisations and communities on human rights and rule of law under the theme √É’√É’Your rights, your dignity, know them, protect them now”.

Executive director Biel Boutros Biel said the project aimed to enhance the protection and promotion of human rights and rule of law in the country, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said if citizens know their rights they will be able to understand when they are being violated and demand respect.

Mr Boutros added that the project targeted youth and women organisations, chiefs, local government, persons with disability and students to be able to contribute to meaningful governance.

Mr Boutros said the people of South Sudan during the liberation war suffered greatly due to lack of rule of law and after independence people continue to suffer because there is no relevant information to address issues of human rights abuses.

The chairperson for Justice and Legislation Committee in the National Assembly Dentiel Kuur said the work of the human right society was like the work of the MPs in the parliament.

He added that the work of the assembly is also to fights for the rule of law because it is not the political institution.

Mr Boutros said due to a limited budget the project will be implemented in four states: Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Upper Nile and Unity.
