South Sudan needs more awareness campaigns on landmines though much has been done by the Government, NGOs and the UN.
Danish Demining Group Operation Manager Justin Green told Bakhita Radio that many landmines were cleared in the last eight years. He said though some states are free from landmines, they still affect some parts of the country, particularly Jonglei state where mines survey was disrupted by insecurity.
Mr Green said South Sudan needed more efforts to be landmine free.
He added that most of the landmine agencies that operate in South Sudan work closely together to make sure no areas are left out.
Mr Green said most of the NGOs focus on community priorities while the UNMISS follows government priority areas for development.
Today is International Day for Mine Awareness celebrated under the theme “Join people worldwide and lend your leg by rolling up a pant leg to raise awareness of mines and show support for saviours.”
