Eastern Equatoria Governor urged people to spend Easter season free of alcohol.

Louise Lobong Lojore told the congregation at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Torit on Easter Sunday that he wished them well and a good celebration, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He cautioned the worshippers against alcohol consumption. He said alcohol and harmful substances did not bring joy and happiness, but destruction.

Governor Lobong counselled the congregation to share water with visitors and neighbours, even if it was fetched from Kineti River, after being boiled and purified, instead of giving harmful drinks like alcohol.

He asserted that Easter came this year at the right time with the first rains.

The Governor called on people to take advantage of rain and cultivate enough land to harvest enough food at the end of the season.

Mr Lobong appreciated the efforts of the people in the state towards cultivation last year saying it brought food prices down in Torit.

The Governor asked priests to preach the Word of God to idlers who always gather under trees and ask them to surrender their helpless games and gain courage to do productive work.
