WBG PEACE, RECONCILIATION REPORTS PROGRESS AMID BUDGET LIMITS

The peace and reconciliation campaign launched in Western Bahr El-Ghazal as a step to reconcile the worrying society after December’s deadly violence in Wau has shown progress despite of limited funds.

Wednesday morning the peace and reconciliation team presented a report to Western Bahr El-Ghazal governor and expressed the need to extend the campaign to rural areas, Voice of Hope reported.

Livio Bahara Gelego, deputy chairperson for the reconciliation team, said they conducted nine rallies around Wau and that their outcome has been quit encouraging.

He added that in the rallies they urged people to trust the Government and not to provoke insecurity.

Mr Bahara said the team presented further plans for similar campaigns in the rural areas to preach the benefits of peace.

He said mobility was critical to cover has many places as they could.

Committee chairperson Efisio Kon Ugwok said there is fear that violence may arise between farmers and cattle keepers in the areas of Momoi, Natabu and Bacilia, in Wau, which the team should address.

He said the team will carry the message of “No to violence but yes for peaceful co-existence” and what has happened in Wau must not be repeated.
