The Mayor of Juba on Monday decided to keep water prices dismissing complaints from Eritrean suppliers who were asking for a hike in water fees to recover expenses related to fuel, tires and fines.
Mohamed Al Haj Babala said the complaints were baseless because the price of fuel did not since the agreement on water prices was signed and drivers don’t change tires every month. He added that one drum of water in Juba and Kator should cost four pounds, in Munuki five, in Gudele six and beyond Gudele seven.
The mayor asked citizens to write down the number plates of water tanks not respecting the prices and report.
Mr Babala said the identification of water tanks with stickers and the routing of water supply were to be kept because they help security and make sure all citizens get water.
He added that regarding the complaint of the traffic police harassment, the City Council is going to handle it with immediate effect supplying a phone number to drivers to report problems with police.
Mr Babala announced that water supplying companies have to form a single association to dialogue with the Mayor’s office.
He explained that those not registered would be considered illegal.
The Mayor called on residents to cooperate with the City Council to address the challenges of water shortage around Juba and urged the community to call his office in case of misunderstandings.
